Callen the Artist

Last July, we viisted Doug's brother Dave at his home in Ft. Lauderdale. He had recently renovated a 2 bedroom condo that is great bachelor pad!! While there, I noticed a big eye sore on the wall (the fuse box) that needed to be covered with some kind of artwork. Doug and I did some thinking and decided we would try and let Callen make a piece of artwork for Dave to hang in that spot.

Before

We bought some paints and a canvas for Callen to create his first masterpiece for Dave! Over Christmas while we were all in Charleston, we let Callen have full range over the canvas and paints. Cal had so much fun painting and acting like a true 'artist!' The piece turned out great, and looks really good in the space.

The artist hard at work!

It's time for a new color

Dave liked the artwork so much that he wanted Callen to paint one to go above his bed. This is a much bigger space, so we were a little worried about Cal's attention span for painting such a large canvas as well as how it would turn out. We visited Dave again in March and decided this would be a good time to work on this second piece of art. This one took two days to finish because of paint needing to dry between applications. Also, Cal needed a break to 'work on his creativity!' It was another fun project...a little more stressful this time making sure Cal did not get paint anywhere in Dave's condo complex...but fun nonetheless! We gave Cal a little more direction this time as to where to place paint as the canvas was filling up, but he did all the painting and picking of colors.

Thanks Dave for holding my paints!

Every detail counts!

Cal had such a fun time painting both these pieces. They may not be worth anything of value in the real world, but there is a real proud uncle in Florida who is excited to show off his nephew's artwork! Thanks Dave for letting Callen express some of his creativity.
